How it works
Foster Art
As an emerging artist with a studio full of pieces it kills me to see empty wall space. When I landed on my feet in Brooklyn and started the painful search for gallery representation, I noted how many of my friends had beautiful blank walls. With art market pricing beyond the reach of most working families I figured there must be a way to get art to my friends without just giving pieces away.
Foster Walls is designed to connect art lovers with emerging artists supporting themselves through their work. During their six month Foster term, host families curate their homes with artwork they might never have the chance to hang, and have an opportunity to earn 20% of the retail value if the work sells. If they decide to purchase the piece, they get 20% off the total cost as a thank you for hosting.
Artists now directly access their audience without the obscurity of the gallery world. Pieces get to live on walls for people to love and share with their community instead of collecting graphite dust in a studio. Not only does great art see the light of day, artists increase sales, taking home 70% of each sale when a piece finds a permanent collection.
Art should be enjoyed, let’s share some beauty.
